Agawan Lake Park

The Agawan Lake Park in the village of Southampton provides a brief respite from the bustle of a busy Main Street. |

The playground at Agawan Lake Park is comprised of three playsets and two banks of swings. The largest set (above) features a mini slide, covered slide and some old-school sheet metal paired slides. There are four levels for climbing and a chain bridge. The equipment is showing it's age a bit -- most of the construction is real wood rather than the composite material used in newer playsets. There is a padded surface under the largest set that is also covered with mulch.

The smaller steel playset features a short slide and some easy-to-climb stairs. There is also a countertop and a chime organ.

Like the playsets, the swings at Agawan Lake Park are showing their age. The toddler swings are cracked and faded, and the chains are bare. There are two banks of swings, so there is always availability.

The newer molded plastic set keeps with the waterfront theme nicely. This set has a built-in game board and a very small covered slide. One drawback to Agawan Park is that the memorial in the background has become something of a hangout for day laborers. They're not a nuisance, in fact we saw them picking up some garbage in the park during our visit, but it's always a bit disconcerting to see groups of men in their twenties without children hanging around playgrounds...

The main attraction to Agawan Park is that it's a pretty setting. You can easily walk through the village to get some ice cream or other snacks. There are public restrooms adjacent to the park, behind the storefronts. Parking is free and usually abundant, although weekends in the summer can get very crowded in Southampton.
