Eisenhower Park Playground

Eisenhower Park The playground at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow is a sprawling complex of five different play areas as well as multiple swing sets and a sprayground.

Eisenhower Park

The playground complex at Eisenhower Park is located just off of parking field 2, immediately after the entrance if you're coming in from Hempstead Turnpike. Don't be fooled by the playground signs at parking field 6 -- there are only some swings near the picnic areas. The real action is at the south side of the park, where you'll find no less than nine playsets and three banks of swings. There's a lot of fun to be had at Eisenhower Park, starting with the set above that's just across from the entrance. The construction is all steel and composite wood, with plastic slides and a padded play surface throughout.

This large playset is paired with the one above. The five different play areas are not explicitly labeled by age group, but this one is clearly intended for older kids. The climbing platforms can be a little steep and the slides are fairly high. The adjacent swingset is equipped with standard swings with bare chains.

The northernmost play area is best for kids between two and five. It has some moderate height climbs and features this covered corkscrew slide, the only one in the park. The sliding platform also offers a steeper sheetmetal slide for those with a need for speed.

This double bank of toddler swings gives the park plenty of swing capacity and highlights the good design of the whole area. These swings are fenced in and accessible from the entrance and small child playgrounds and are easily visible from the center pavilion and picnic areas. From inside, you also have a good view of the park entrance, and we saw a number of people meeting in this area.

The aforementioned small child area features two playsets with tunnels and short slides. There is a sand table built in to one of the playsets, and there are plenty of benches surrounding this area for parent seating. It also has child-sized picnic tables for when your little dynamo needs to refuel.

At the far southern end of the playground complex is the older child play area. This one features three steep corkscrew slides, two built into this playset and one standalone. Despite this area's proximity to Hempstead Turnpike, the noise level is not too bad. The large and well-maintained bathrooms are right next to this area. There are beverage vending machines if you run out of juice boxes. The sprayground is just outside of the bathroom house, and it's a large ring with multiple spray heads but no play equipment. It's got a hard concrete surface.

Eisenhower Park is open every day and is the largest park in the Nassau County Parks system. In addition to the playground there is miniature golf, three regulation golf courses, indoor swimming pools, tennis and other athletic fields, many picnic areas and walking trails, and the Harry Chapin outdoor theater where shows are held throughout the summer. Parking is plentiful and free.
