Bethpage State Park

Bethpage State Park Known nationwide for its outstanding golf courses, Bethpage State Park is also home to a polo pitch and a playground located in a large picnic area.

Bethpage State Park
The playground at Bethpage State Park is located in a secondary entrance off of the Bethpage Parkway. The main entrance off the traffic circle leads only to the golf courses, so to get to the playground you'll need to head west from the circle and look for the polo and picnic entrance. The picnic area is served by a large and paved parking lot, which is also used for the athletic fields. The design of the playground blends in very well with the wooded surroundings, with pavilions that look like treetops and brown metal frames.

Each of the platforms offer a different climb to gain access, some with standard stairs and others with more challenging climbs like this rope ladder (actually made of plastic). The platforms are connected by long bridges, and even away from the pavilions there is ample shade from the tree canopy above. This is a good playground for a hot and sunny day.

All of the larger slides on this playset feature hold bars at the top to assist smaller riders and give older ones the chance to get some speed going. The play surface at Bethpage State Park is a wood mulch, and the whole area is fenced in with gates. There are hundreds of picnic tables in the area, and a few that surround the playground area. Also, there is a public restroom immediately adjacent to the playground that is fairly new and in good condition.

Several nice details on the playset add to the treehouse theme, like the plank walls and the earth-tone slides and climbs. Overall, the set blends in very nicely with the surrounding woods. On top of the hill overlooking the playground, there are several ballfields and a horseshoe pitch. There are no swings at Bethpage State Park.

A realistic-looking rock wall provides a great climbing area. The grooves in the rock are substantial enough to allow a pretty easy climb but not so obvious as to route climbers in any one direction or to take away from the natural look. The wood mulch won't, however, provide much of a cushion for a fall from here.

Another good climb can be found at this chain ladder curtain. The pedal exerciser on the right will guarantee that your kids leave the playground tired.

Bethpage State Park is open every day from sunrise to sunset. State Park parking fees apply during the summer season and the Empire Passport is honored. Sundays can get pretty crowded during the polo season.
