Cedar Point Park

Cedar Point Park Cedar Point County Park in East Hampton is a popular camping destination, with a small playground and a long beach to explore.

Cedar Point Park
Nestled away in the woods just a few miles from bustling East Hampton, the Suffolk County Park at Cedar Point is a great spot for a short getaway or even a few days camping among the tall pine trees. The roads leading in to Cedar Point are narrow and twisty, taking you through miles of protected wilderness. The way there is well-marked, however, so don't worry about losing your way. Once there, you'll find a mid-sized playground where the playset offers a little something for everyone.

The slides at Cedar Point come in small, medium and large. These medium double slides descend from a platform that can be accessed via a wire climb or standard stairs. Across the bridge there's a medium sized corkscrew, and from the rear a small wide slide with a bit of a curve. There is also a hang glider that launches from this area.

For the bigger kids, there are two long and steep slides that give great fast rides. A bumpy slide and a covered slide sit side-by-side, although there would be no contest in a race -- the covered slide is built for speed. There's also a log roll in this area. None of the platforms have canopies, but the whole area is pretty well shaded. The play surface at Cedar Point is wood mulch, but it's not very soft. One swingset next to the play area features six standard swings with bare chains.

The big attraction at Cedar Point is, of course, the beach. It's located on a north shore bay (Gardiners Bay), so there are no waves and the sand is a bit on the rocky side. If you've got older kids with a sense of adventure, you can walk out along the peninsula to the Cedar Point lighthouse. There is also a lot of wildlife viewing opportunities, both on the beach (crabs and fish in the tidal pools) and in the rest of the park (we saw a few wild turkeys running about). Because this is a campground, there are well-maintained public restrooms and food service available.

Cedar Point Park is open every day, with Green Key admission during the high season. In addition to camping, there are row boat rentals, fishing and hunting in season. The general store shows outdoor Saturday night movies every week during the summer.
