Christmas Tree Lightings, 2008

We're making a list, and you can check it as often as you like. Here is the LI4Kids guide to Christmas Tree lightings on Long Island for 2008. There's plenty of holiday spirit and hot chocolate to go around, the toughest part is deciding which ones to attend.

Friday, November 28th
Holtsville, daily through January 4th
Brookhaven Brite Nights returns to the Holtsville Ecology Center with a drive-through light spectacular. Open daily from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., admission is $12 per carload.

Uniondale, November 28th through the 30th
The Festival of Trees, a United Cerebral Palsy benefit at the Long Island Marriott, presents a holiday fair with dozens of designer-decorated trees, gingerbread village, children's activities and live music.


Saturday, November 29th
Fire Island, 10:00 a.m.
The tree trimming event at the Fire Island Lighthouse is open to anyone who wants to bring a handmade ornament related to the sea. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

Glen Cove
Holiday tree lighting at the Village Square.

Northport, 7:00 p.m.
Lighting of the village Christmas tree and caroling, a visit from Santa and refreshments

Patchogue, 6:00 p.m.
The community Christmas Tree lighting starts with a parade down Main Street and ends with the tree lighting at the Capital One Plaza, 116 East Main Street.

Port Jefferson, 1:00 p.m.
Santa Claus leads a parade down Main Street at 1:00 p.m., followed by pictures and the lighting of the tree at dusk at the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

Sayville, 5:00 p.m.
The annual "Miracle on Main Street" features Christmas carols, hot chocolate, an outdoor holiday movie, vintage carousel and tree lighting.


Sunday, November 30th
Lindenhurst, 4:00 p.m.
Holiday parade down Wellwood Avenue to Babylon Town Hall, with Santa and other characters followed by the tree lighting .


Monday, December 1st
Bayport, 7:00 p.m.
Bayport Blue Point High School lights their Christmas tree.
Also beginning on December 1st and running through December 23rd, the Winter Wonderland drive-through light show at Camp Edy features holiday vignettes. $12 per carload.


Tuesday, December 2nd
Shirley, 6:00 p.m.
The Dowling College Brookhaven Campus lights their Christmas tree, with hot chocolate and cookies.


Wednesday, December 3rd
East Nortport, 6:00 p.m.
Chistmas carols, hot chocolate and Santa will celebrate the tree lighting at Clock Tower Park near the train station.

Flanders, 7:00 p.m.
The annual lighting of the Big Duck. Not exactly a Christmas tree, but a Long Island institution nonetheless.

Manhattan, 7:00 p.m.
The grandaddy of them all, the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center features live performances and big crowds.

Oakdale, 6:00 p.m.
The Dowling College Oakdale Campus lights their Christmas tree, with carolers, hot chocolate and cookies.

Port Jefferson
St. Charles Hospital presents a holiday concert and Christmas tree lighting, followed by cookies and hot chocolate in the lobby.

Shelter Island, 7:00 p.m.
Santa Claus leads the caroling at police headquarters following the tree lighting, with refreshments served at the American Legion Hall.


Friday, December 5th
Babylon, 5:30 p.m.
Santa will be making the rounds through Babylon town in a horse-drawn carriage.

Orient, 5:30 p.m.
The Orient Historical Society presents their annual tree lighting at the Old Point School House on Village Lane. Caroling and refreshments. At 6:30, there will be a tree lighting at Orient Beach State Park.


Saturday, December 6th
Amityville, 5:00 p.m.
Santa arrives on a fire truck to share in the hot chocolate and tree lighting at the triangle on Broadway.

Bellport, 5:00 p.m.
Tree lighting at the Bellport community center.

East Hampton, 10:00 a.m.
Santa leads a parade on Main Street, starting at the town pond and heading north to Newtown Lane.

Holbrook, 4:30 p.m.
Tree lighting and a visit from Santa, at the Irish Times parking lot.

Massapequa, 6:00 p.m.
Caroling, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa accompany the tree lighting at Klestinec Park on Broadway.

Montauk, 11:00 a.m.
Celebrate Christmas at the lighthouse with pony rides, refreshments and a visit from Santa.

North Babylon, 4:15 p.m.
Belmont Lake State Park holiday tree lighting.

Old Westbury, 7:00 p.m.
Old Westbury Gardens lights up Westbury House and their Christmas tree, with caroling, refreshments and a visit from Santa.

Sag Harbor, 5:30 p.m.
Holiday tree and wreath lighting throughout the village.

Southampton, 5:00 p.m.
Christmas tree lighting at Agawan Park, carolers throughout the village, Main Street parade at 4:30 p.m. and a holiday party with Santa at the Southampton Cultural Center on Pond Lane.

Uniondale, 5:00 p.m.
Long Island's largest tree lighting event, the Holiday Tree Lighting Spectacular at Reckson Plaza features music, dancing and an ice skating spectacular.


Sunday, December 7th
Baldwin, 4:00 p.m.
Refreshments, "reindeer" rides for kids, live music and the tree lighting welcome Santa as he arrives via fire truck at the Baldwin train station.

Centerport, 7:00 p.m.
The Centerport Fire Department presents the annual tree lighting with refreshments, caroling and a visit from Santa.

Garden City, 3:30 p.m.
Hot chocolate, cookies, Santa, Village Music Makers and Garden City High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble get you warmed up for the tree lighting at the Village Gazebo.

Hampton Bays, 4:00 p.m.
Tree lighting across from the firehouse on Montauk Highway, to be followed by hot chocolate and gifts for kids from Santa himself at the firehouse.

Merrick, 6:00 p.m.
Christmas tree lighting at the Merrick Gazebo, with a Kiwanis toy drive.

Port Washington, 4:00 p.m.
Blumenfeld Family Park on Main Street lights their Christmas tree, with carolers, refreshments, a live nativity and a visit from Santa.

Ronkonkoma, 4:00 p.m.
Raynor Beach hosts a tree lighting with live music, gifts for kids and a visit from Santa.

Stony Brook, 5:30 p.m.
Santa arrives at 2:00 p.m. at the Stony Brook Village Center on Main Street to view the Promenade of Trees, over 80 decorated holiday trees. Carolers and tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.

Syosset, 4:00 p.m.
Live music, refreshments, Santa and the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Astoria Bank Plaza on Jackson Avenue


Monday, December 8th
Levittown, 6:00 p.m.
Christmas tree lighting with carolers and a visit from Santa at Veterans Memorial Park on Shelter Lane.


Friday, December 12th
Bay Shore, 5:00 p.m.
Southside Hospital presents their Holiday Festival with a tree lighting, caroling and visits from Mr. & Mrs. Claus and Rudolph.

Oyster Bay, 6:00 p.m.
The Planting Fields Arboretum State Park presents their annual tree lighting.


Saturday, December 13th
Westhampton Beach, 5:00 p.m.
Christmas tree lighting at the village green on Mill Road and Main Street.


Sunday, December 14th
Setauket, 5:00 p.m.
The Setauket Electric Holiday Parade features music, refreshments, marchers and floats to be followed by the tree lighting at Setauket Bridge Pond Park. Santa will be there to collect children's holiday wish lists.

Don't forget, Hanukkah starts December 21st so look for a list of Menorah lighting ceremonies in the coming weeks from LI4Kids.
