|Just west of the Wantagh Parkway, Wantagh Park offers many recreation areas on a waterfront location including playing fields and tennis courts, pool and a large playground.|
The playground complex at Wantagh Park is very large, with three separate areas each containing at least two playsets. There is a large and paved parking lot right next to the playground, and a public restroom facility nearby.
There are three very large swingsets at Wantagh Park. Near the entrance you'll find two banks of toddler swings with no less than twelve seats. There is plenty of swing capacity here. A second bank of standard swings features six seats and an old-fashioned rocket-topped metal slide.
The play surface varies throughout the playground, with a large sandy surface under the equipment for smaller kids and black tiles under the larger playsets. There is plenty of adult seating around the playground, as well as some picnic tables for lunch or a snack.
There is a great variety of slides at Wantagh Park. Each set gives kids the chance to ride covered slides, corkscrews, paired slides or steep speedsters like the one above. Each set also gives kids the choice between simple stairs and more challenging climbs. The equipment here is older, and some of it is starting to show its age -- especially the colors. But it's still in relatively good condition, and there are no safety concerns outside of the black tiles that tend to get very hot in the summer.
Most of the equipment here is pretty straightforward -- there isn't anything like a theme. This firetruck and slide combo is about the only imaginative play space.
This very large set gives kids a chance to explore, climb and find their way to a number of different slides. Its position below the walking surface gives it the appearance of being like a boat at a dock. It's definitely for older kids though: the ladders have high spaces and many of the slides have a large dropoff at the end.
Wantagh Park is also the home of a large public pool and spray area. We'll be updating with pictures of that area when the weather gets warm again.
