The Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead gives kids a place to explore the history of railroads on Long Island through hands-on exhibits, model train displays and a vintage miniature train ride.
Adventureland, on Route 110 in Farmingdale, is the last of Long Island's large amusement parks. With rides for small kids and large, indoor and outdoor spaces and well-manicured grounds, there are good reasons why it has survived.
Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead is built around Hempstead Lake, the largest lake in Nassau County. There is a mid-sized playground undergoing some renovation, and a vintage wood carousel that's a delight to ride.
